Phil Hay: Most likely Leeds United change v Manchester City is Robin Koch for Mateusz Klich

Phil Hay has mooted that Robin Koch could come in for Leeds United against Manchester City this evening.

The Athletic journalist shared that it would most likely be Mateusz Klich dropping out of the side for the German.

It comes after the Polish maestro was seen in a heated disagreement with Jesse Marsch against Crystal Palace on Monday.

Writing in his pre-match Q&A for The Athletic, Hay shared the most likely switch to the side at Elland Road.

“Leeds are unbeaten in five, though, and I’d expect the line-up to be largely unchanged from Monday night at Palace,” he wrote.

“The most likely switch is Robin Koch replacing Mateusz Klich in defensive midfield.”

Dropped.

It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see Klich come out of the side this evening, given his expertise are more going forward.

The Polish international was clearly struggling against Crystal Palace before being taken off, and it looks as though he is struggling to adapt into the new system.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, he was allowed to roam and bomb into the final third whenever, whereas now he is much more structured and actually playing deeper.

That suits Koch much more, and in a game where we expect to have our backs to the wall, him sitting makes sense.

Having Kalvin Phillips alongside either of these two is huge news too, and hopefully, he can have a big say on the game today.

Marsch isn’t stupid, he will know what to expect and picking that extra defensive man may not be the worst decision at all.
