Phil Hay moots position changes for Leeds United duo Forshaw and Koch ahead of Aston Villa clash
Phil Hay believes that Leeds United duo Robin Koch and Adam Forshaw could be deployed in unfamiliar positions against Aston Villa.
In his Athletic pre-game Q&A, Hay was quizzed about Leeds’ 4-3-2-1 and it causing problems in the middle of the park.
To tackle this issue, he mooted a midfield role for Koch with Forshaw playing in a more advanced position against Steven Gerrard’s men.

He wrote, “I suppose one way of tackling this would be to play Koch at 4 and Forshaw in a more advanced midfield role. Forshaw tends to be box to box so in theory he’d have the legs and the nous to pick up Villa’s spare 10. That might well be where tonight is won and lost.”
Good idea
Gerrard’s Villa have been more organised and they’re likely to give very little away in the middle third.
Leeds, on the other hand, will play an all action brand of football and look to find spaces in their opposition line of defence.

Playing Forshaw in a slightly more advanced position and have Koch stepping into midfield could give them much needed cover during transitions.
We’ve often seen this Leeds side being susceptible to the counter attacks and ideally, this could be a system Marcelo Bielsa deploys on a more regular basis should it work out for his side this time around.
Hopefully, the Whites made the most of their winter break and they’re ready to go on a solid run towards the back end of the 2021/22 campaign.
In other Leeds United news, it is confirmed that the Whites made a ‘Strong offer’ to sign an ‘Exceptional’ Ligue 1 attacker with 10 G+A in 21/22
