Phil Hay: Jean-Kevin Augustin suffers injury in massive Leeds setback
Leeds striker Jean-Kevin Augustin has suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury, according to reliable Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
The bombshell news was posted on his Twitter account on Wednesday morning.
Leeds are set to play Cardiff a week on Sunday and he is very unlikely to be fit for this if it’s confirmed.
Hay has said the news is unconfirmed at the moment but he’s a very reliable source of Leeds news and we fear the worst.
We’d started hearing rumours that Augustin had been sent home from Thorp Arch about an hour earlier on Twitter so we were on high alert.
Unfortunately, that now seems to be the case and it’s yet another blow for the RB Leipzig striker and must put into doubt whether he can play any part in the remaining nine games this season.
We were hoping that Augustin would play a major part in the last nine games, with all the noises coming out from Thorp Arch sounding very positive.
Leeds trailed videos of him working out hard during lockdown and fans noticed that his physique had changed and he was looking much trimmer, after going down with a hamstring injury earlier in the season.
Augustin is still waiting for his first start for Leeds and missed the last three games before the season suspension through injury.
This will now open the door for Tyler Roberts to play a big part, with Patrick Bamford now almost guaranteed to be the main striker for the rest of the season.
