Paul Robinson wowed by 'outstanding' Willy Gnonto in Leeds United 2-2 v West Ham United

Paul Robinson has been left stunned by Willy Gnonto who scored his first Premier League goal for Leeds United in the 2-2 draw against West Ham on Wednesday (4 January) in the Premier League.

The Italy international, who joined in the summer, scored the opening goal of the match in the 27th minute after he found the net with a stunning left-footed volley, following a brilliant pass from Cry Summerville.

The Sky Sports pundit hailed the link-up play of Gnonto as “outstanding” and said it was a “brilliant” finish from the youngster.

“Wow, what a finish from Gnonto”, said Robinson, while commenting for the Premier League world feed on 4 January, 28 minutes into the live coverage.

“The link-up play with Summerville was absolutely outstanding.

“Gnonto on the half volley of his left foot… what a finish! What a ball by Summerville with a pass outside if his right boot. Brilliant finish.”

Fair result?

The game swung like a pendulum and in the end, it was a fair result and a great advert for the Premier League.

In the beginning, the Whites managed to grab a goal after a scintillating piece of attacking movement, but the Hammers found a way back to equalize through Lucas Paqueta from the spot.

After the break, the Hammers quickly took the lead through Gianluca Scamacca. However, Leeds kept on piling pressure and restored parity through Rodrigo.

After the 70th minute, the Whites could have scored as many four to five goals had they been more clinical. Rodrigo missed his chances, while Lukasz Fabianski made a magnificent save in the dying seconds of the match to keep the scoreline intact.

Michail Antonio could have won the game for the Hammers after a peach of a pass from Declan Rice. Jesse Marsch will probably feel that they should have picked up a win here, but he should be very proud of this performance from his players.

Gnonto is a fantastic talent and he is just getting better with every game he plays.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have already made an approach to sign a player who could be the next arrival at Elland Road after Max Wober.
