Patrick Bamford injury update at Leeds United after absence v Sheffield Wednesday
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has confirmed Patrick Bamford has picked up a hamstring injury ahead of the clash with Sheffield Wednesday, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via X on Friday (23 August) that the Whites boss told Sky Sports ahead of the clash at Hillsborough the striker had been sidelined with a “small” problem.
Bamford was left out of Leeds’ matchday squad for the showdown with the Owls and Farke also suggested he could miss the Championship clash with Hull City next Saturday (31 August).
Writing on X, Smyth said: “Daniel Farke has confirmed to Sky that Patrick Bamford has a small hamstring issue.
“Out tonight and possibly missing Hull City.”
Is Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford injured?
While Leeds United fans have voiced their frustration with Bamford at the start of the season, this development could prove to be a major blow for the Whites as they look to really get their campaign up and running.
The England international may not be Farke’s first choice number nine, but he offers something different at the top end of the pitch and his goals proved to be incredibly important to the Whites last season.
However, his recent injury record will be a major cause for concern at Elland Road. The striker missed the end of last season after a knock against Middlesbrough and he was also ruled out for large parts of pre-season.
Farke cannot rely on Bamford to be fit week and week out and that will be a major worry for Leeds. They simply need to find a way to keep him fit or it would be in their interest to move him on before the end of the window.
Unfortunately, that will be a lot harder to do while he is sidelined.
