‘Nightmare’ – Big Newcastle development highlights massive problem for Magpies in clash v Leeds
Newcastle have become the first Premier League side to suffer a mass outbreak of Covid-19 that’s seen their game against Aston Villa postponed last Friday and the training ground shut.
And the troubles aren’t over for Newcastle yet. A report in the Telegraph claims that the training ground is still closed and that their game against West Brom on Saturday is also at risk of being called off.
The total number of infected people at Newcastle is in double figures and Covid has been passed on to at-risk family members.
Newcastle fans site NUFCblog.co.uk detailed the size of the problem facing Newcastle who are set to play Leeds a week on Wednesday.
They said, “There’s never a good time, but the timing of this mass outbreak at #NUFC couldn’t be worse… We had SEVEN games planned this month. The #WBA now looks highly likely to be postponed, yet we are due to play #LUFC next Wednesday – and being three games behind would be a nightmare.
“Even if we were ok to play at #LUFC next Wednesday, the team would’ve barely trained for 14 days heading into it & all momentum from the #CPFC win would be lost. Not only that, we play Leeds (16th), Fulham (19th) then our QF vs Brentford (22nd) within the space of 6 days!”
Troubles for Newcastle
First off we want to say that we hope the situation clears up at Newcastle as quickly as possibly.
We send our best wishes to all the people affected at the club and their families.
Something like this was seemingly always going to happen and it’s perhaps good fortune that it hasn’t become a much bigger problem for the Premier League this season.
However, we also hope that the game against Leeds a week on Wednesday will go ahead as planned.
We don’t want Leeds to fall behind on fixtures and it would be a nightmare for Newcastle if they fall three games behind.
The wider implications for the Leeds game aren’t good for Newcastle. They will barely have trained for 14 days if the game does go-ahead and that will definitely play into Leeds’ hands.
The fitness of the Leeds players is massive and that’s a big part of the high-pressing game that Bielsa plays.
The Newcastle players will be keeping fit on their own but they won’t be anywhere near 100% match fit.
We don’t like the circumstances that it happens it but it’s definitely a big boost for Leeds.
