'MOTM', 'King' - Many Leeds fans still gushing over 28y/o who found 'inner Mbappe' v Birmingham

It was the Luke Ayling show on Sunday as Leeds United earned a breathtaking 5-4 win against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.

Ayling, 28, scored an absolute belter, assisted Stuart Dallas’ goal and forced the match-decided own goal in stoppage time as Leeds moved top of the Championship table.

The former Bristol City right-back had been widely criticised for his performances before the trip to Birmingham at the weekend.

On Boxing Day, in the 1-1 draw with Preston, the defender was ripped to shreds by a section of fans on Twitter for his display.

However the mood among Leeds fans has completely changed after Ayling’s brilliant performance at St Andrew’s – with one supporter even claiming he found his “inner Mbappe” in the nine-goal thriller.

While the 28-year-old is not quite at the level of the Paris Saint-Germain and France star, it just shows how well he did perform on Sunday.

Here is a selection of tweets by Leeds fans who were thrilled with Ayling’s shift:

A couple of fans have named Ayling as their man of the match at Birmingham.

In our player ratings, we opted for Jack Harrison, but Ayling is certainly someone who ran the winger close and was also worthy of being dubbed the best player on the pitch.
