Michael Owen was shocked by the defending from Leeds United defender Liam Cooper in the buildup to Ben Davies’ goal for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Whites captain threw himself to the floor in hopes to take the ball away from Dejan Kulusevski, who managed to avoid making contact with the Scottish defender to square the ball towards the penalty area.

Leeds conceded what was their second goal of the game, before conceding a late goal and ended up losing the clash by a 4-3 scoreline.

He said on Premier League Productions’ post-match show (12/11, 17:14), “Awful. Absolutely awful that from Cooper. He cannot be doing that.”

Unacceptable

This wasn’t the best bit of defending from Cooper and we’re surprised that he got done there so badly.

He cannot be throwing himself into the tackle and then to the floor after it when he’s defending against a player of Kulusevski’s calibre.

That gave the Spurs attacker a clear run at goal and he did his best to get his teammates into the action and while a rebound to Davies was not the plan, it resulted in a goal for the hosts.

Cooper does have games where he’s flawless and commands the back line perfectly but then he does crazy things like these which certainly would infuriate the fans and the manager.

This was a game that Leeds could’ve gotten something from and ended up coming back from their travels to London empty handed.

The time may have arrived to plan the long-term strategy for centre-backs at the club and Cooper is certainly not good enough to play week in and week out.

In other Leeds United news, the club have now put up a first-team player on sale as they expect top EFL sides to make a move for him in January.
