Michael Owen predicts Leeds United clash v West Ham
Michael Owen predicts Leeds United will suffer a defeat at the hands of West Ham at Elland Road on Saturday.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are suffering from a winless start to the Premier League season, drawing three and losing two of their opening five games.
West Ham are eighth as it stands and bounced back from their league loss to Manchester United last weekend by beating the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
David Moyes’ men had the better of Bielsa’s on both occasions last season and ex-Liverpool striker Owen expects the same thing to happen again on Saturday at Elland Road.
Writing on the BetVictor website, Owen said: “That was a good performance at St James’ Park last Friday, but Bielsa will be disappointed to not get the three points. It was a familiar story for Leeds in that they created plenty of chances but didn’t take enough. At least they are creating chances, but they need to start taking some soon.
“West Ham played well against Man United, and they’ll be disappointed to come away with a defeat. It was a dramatic end to the game and the introduction of Mark Noble to take the penalty has been debated all week. It was one of those that had he scored, David Moyes would be a genius, unfortunately, he missed!
“West Ham beat Leeds home and away last season and I think we’ll see more of the same. In fact, they won 2-1 at Elland Road last season and I think we’ll see the same scoreline!”
Wouldn’t be shocked
Leeds haven’t had the best of starts to the season.
However, we won at Fulham on Tuesday night with a weakened side and put in a solid performance away at Newcastle last week.
Newcastle also played quite well and the draw was a fair result but it was a massive improvement by Bielsa’s players.
However, we have injuries galore at the moment and that could seriously hinder our ability to beat West Ham, who are in good form themselves and have Michail Antonio back again after his suspension.
Owen might be right with his prediction for West Ham to win, if we’re being honest.
Of course, we’re praying he’s wrong but all the signs are pointing at an away win at Elland Road.
