Mateo Joseph wows in ‘huge’ Leeds United moment v Hull City
Mateo Joseph scored a “huge” goal for Daniel Farke and Leeds United in their 2-0 win against Hull City on Saturday (31 August), Alan McInally said.
With a fine introduction to Elland Road, joining on loan from Tottenham, Manor Solomon fired a brilliant cross to the near post for the 20-year-old striker to slam home for the Whites.
In front of the home crowd, it looked as though it might not have been the Whites’ day against the Tigers, but Joseph had other ideas after slamming home the opener.
Speaking live via Sky Sports on Saturday (31 August, 4:24pm), McInally said: “Finally. I don’t think I needed to say that there had been a goal at Leeds United because I just assumed you heard the noise. It’s a relief for the fans and the manager, who take the lead.
“It’s really good play down the left flank from Manor Solomon, who gets the byline this time instead of cutting inside. The ball into the near post, I’ve got to say, you’ve got to get in front of the centre-back.
“Mateo Joseph gets a big toe on it. There is nothing Ivor Pandor can do about it this time. It’s a huge moment for Daniel Farke.”
Mateo Joseph strikes first in Leeds United v Hull City
The Spaniard is clearly loving his new role at Elland Road, with Farke giving him the nod to lead the line. The manager has been feeling the pressure so far, but that has certainly eased now.
The manager’s trust in Joseph has paid off, having not handed him a single league start last season, now notching a goal and two assists in the first four Championship matches.
With Patrick Bamford struggling to return from injury, it is vital that Joseph continues his form in front of goal, especially if Leeds are to secure promotion to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

Many fans believed the Whites would have won promotion last season had the 20-year-old been given a proper opportunity, but it was not to be.
Now, Joseph is taking his chances with both hands and not letting go, giving Farke absolutely no reason to take him out of the starting XI despite a number of attacking signings in recent weeks.
