Leeds United v Southampton ratings: Dan James disappoints

Leeds United shared the spoils with Southampton on Saturday afternoon when they played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

The Whites opened the scoring through Jack Harrison but were pegged back when James Ward-Prowse scored a direct free kick in the second half.

This curtailed Jesse Marsch’s winning run as the Whites picked up six points from their previous two games.

Here are our player ratings from Elland Road:

Illan Meslier 5

The Frenchman had a decent game but it can be argued that he could’ve positioned himself better for Ward-Prowse’s free kick.

Luke Ayling 5

Not the best of games defensively from the Englishman. Going forward, he looked solid but was caught out of position time and again in his own half.

Diego Llorente 6

Comfortable game at the back and it helped that he had Liam Cooper whose impact was felt in the game today.

Liam Cooper 7

The Whites captain was terribly missed and it was apparent that he was in the starting eleven. He was vocal from start to end and organised the Leeds defence exceptionally.

Stuart Dallas 8

Undoubtedly the best player on the pitch. In defence and in attack, Dallas looked faultless. He knew precisely what he was supposed to do and delivered it to the T.

Mateusz Klich 4

Not an impressive performance given the fact that Kalvin Phillips is knocking on the door and expected to replace him in the next game.

Adam Forshaw 6

Did his job well and managed to link up with the attackers when needed. It will be interesting to see how he fares with Phillips.

Raphinha 7

Played a key part in setting up the opening goal of the game. Not as involved as he would’ve liked to be but whenever called upon, he threatened the Southampton defence.

Rodrigo 7

Linked up really well with players around him and played some important passes in the final third. He’s really found his place in Marsch’s system.

Jack Harrison 6

Bar the goal, Harrison did not prove to be a threatening force throughout the game like Rodrigo and Raphinha. However, he did enough to justify his place in the team.

Dan James 1

Leeds’ worst player on the day and it’s not entirely his fault. He is not a number nine but is still being played there. Had numerous moments where he made the wrong choices and it’s obvious that he’s not liking it there.
