Leeds United v Brighton postponement update emerges as snow hits West Yorkshire

Leeds United versus Brighton could be at risk of postponement with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning for snow and ice in Leeds on Saturday (11 March), according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper reported on 10 March that the snowy weather in West Yorkshire has grounded flights at Leeds-Bradford Airport and brought the M62 to a standstill.

It is understood that there are concerns about whether Leeds’ clash with Brighton will go ahead at Elland Road this weekend due to the adverse weather.

The YEP refers to a Premier League statement from November 2021, which says that clubs must ensure an early pitch inspection is held to deem if the pitch is playable.

Not an issue with the pitch

We doubt that Leeds’ pitch will be snowed-under or too wet because modern-day Premier League pitches have so much technology tied into them that they rarely suffer from the weather.

What will be the issue will be the surrounding areas and that could be a cause for concern for fan safety.

Elland Road’s safety officer would probably have the final say if this was the case or from the Safety Advisory Group or the police.

Brighton fans have a long journey ahead of them over the next 24 hours or so and that could be taken into consideration but we hope that if the game is called off, it’s done as soon as possible and not a couple of hours before kick-off.

Largely, this depends on how the snow falls between now and Saturday morning when the bulk of Brighton fans will start making their halfway up the country.

Ultimately, we hope the game doesn’t get called off but if it becomes a matter of safety, they’ll have to pull the plug.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
