Leeds United to sell Wilfried Gnonto for 'big money' after display v Nottingham Forest - BBC pundit

Leeds United will one day sell Wilfried Gnonto for “big money” as he continues to impress at Elland Road, according to Clinton Morrison.

Gnonto, 19, has been in sensational form since the World Cup and was once again in good form on Sunday (5 February) despite the Whites losing 1-0 away at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Forest’s defenders didn’t have much choice other than to kick the Italy international down when he broke their lines and after once piece of great attacking play, ex-Crystal Palace striker Morrison waxed lyrical about him.

“Gnonto is causing problems, he is elusive, he wants to take players on,” Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live, as quoted on BBC Sport’s matchday blog on Sunday (5 February, 03:08pm).

“When Leeds do sell him, and they will one day, he will go for big money.”

We’re fed up of the vultures surrounding Leeds.

It’s the price to pay when you do well and recruit well and Victor Orta has definitely had his fair share of gems in his time at Elland Road as director of football.

Gnonto is the latest one.

He’s been incredible this season and it’s beyond belief that Jesse Marsch didn’t play him much at all before the World Cup break.

Maybe if he did, we wouldn’t be in such a terrible league position.

Gnonto is an Italy international and was a regular striker for Roberto Mancini prior to his arrival at Leeds from FC Zurich on transfer deadline day in the summer.

It was a no-brainer to play him, especially when there always seemed to be at least one underperforming attacker.

We hope Leeds don’t need to sell Gnonto any time soon because he’s been terrific and he should only get better and better.

But if we go down – which is on the cards, unfortunately – we could be forced into a cut-price sale.

In other Leeds United news, Sky Sports made a major Daniel James blunder ahead of the game.
