Leeds United team news v Newcastle as Adam Forshaw set for second Premier League start of 2022/23
Adam Forshaw is expected to start for Leeds United against Newcastle after doing their pre-match broadcast interviews, says Beren Cross.
The Whites travelled up north to take on an in-form Magpies side, having been beaten by Manchester City in their first game back after the World Cup break.
Manager Jesse Marsch is expected to make changes to his team after the hosts had an extra 24 hours to rest ahead of this game, but it seems as though the experienced Forshaw won’t be one of them.
“Toon. Forshaw doing pre-match broadcast interviews, which normally means he’s starting,” Cross wrote on his personal Twitter account before the teams were revealed.
Leeds have got plenty of depth in midfield, and their options have been further increased by the return of star man Tyler Adams following suspension last time out.
But with Roca and Adams in, it could have been quite easy for Marsch to drop Forshaw and return to his preferred 4-2-3-1 system, but it seems like he will still stick with his new 4-3-3.
Sam Greenwood would likely be the man to drop out, and Forshaw will add some extra steel and defensive nous to the middle of the pitch where Newcastle tend to dominate physically with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
A win here would be a huge result with Newcastle one of the most in-form teams in the country right now, but also just not losing would be seen as a good result as the Whites look to avoid another relegation battle.
Forshaw will bring leadership and physicality to the side in a game that will no doubt be a battle, so now he must prove Marsch’s decision to be the correct one.
