Leeds United team news v Newcastle shared by Phil Hay in Premier League

Jack Harrison and Crysencio Summerville could come back into the side for Leeds United’s trip to Newcastle on New Years Eve, says Phil Hay.

The Whites were beaten 3-1 by champions Manchester City in their return to Premier League action in midweek, leaving them in a precarious position in the table with a relegation battle potentially on the cards again.

And now Athletic journalist Hay believes Jesse Marsch could look to freshen things up with his team selection, but says Patrick Bamford will miss the game through injury yet again.

“Not an easy game today either, away at Newcastle and just three days on from the defeat to Manchester City,” he wrote.

“Newcastle are going well and in serious contention for a Champions League spot.

“They’ve had 48 hours extra to recover too so expect Jesse Marsch to freshen it up – potentially with Jack Harrison and Crysencio Summerville.

“There’ll be no Patrick Bamford again though. He’s still not ready.”

Leeds have looked decent going forward during the break in play over November and December, but against Man City they were pretty much silenced for the most part.

They’ll need to be far better than that in this game, but Newcastle won’t make it easy for them and are in their best form in a decade.

The inclusion of pace and experience with Summerville and Harrison would be a welcome boost to a side that looked rather toothless in their last outing with Willy Gnonto and an extra midfielder in the side.

By going more attacking it could go one of two ways, either we catch Newcastle off guard and put in a strong performance or we get torn apart by a better team.

We need to get something from this game, because more bad results will increase the pressure on Jesse Marsch and make it harder to avoid relegation, so credit goes to Marsch for really going for it if these changes prove true.
