Major blow for Leeds as hamstring injury rules player out v Hull – confirmed
Jean-Kevin Augustin was missing from the Leeds United squad last night and it left fans gnashing their teeth.
He hasn’t started since signing in January, although he’s been on the bench for the past few games prior to last night.
The news wasn’t good after the game, either.
Talking in his post-match press conference, Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that the striker had suffered a hamstring injury and wouldn’t be available for the Hull game on Saturday.
His words were reported by Athletic journalist Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account.
Leeds coped without Augustin last night and he didn’t make it off the bench on Saturday in the win against Reading.
However, Leeds have only won the last three games 1-0 and Patrick Bamford hasn’t scored in any of them.
Middlesbrough were outclassed last night but hit the bar in the second half, coming within inches of sneaking a point and putting a dent in Leeds’ promotion charge.
You can’t keep winning 1-0 and keep getting away with it.
Leeds need a fully fit Augustin now and this is a step backwards that’s going to worry Leeds fans.
He hasn’t played a lot this season, only making two starts at Monaco, and players like that are susceptible to injury.
But, there are only 11 matches left, 10 after the match against Hull at the weekend and this is going to put his quest for fitness back another few games at least.
As an impact signing for this season, Augustin is starting to look like a busted flush.
