Leeds United fans were caught in chaos outside the John Smith's Stadium just minutes before kick-off against Huddersfield Town on Saturday 2 March.

With an opportunity to close the gap on Championship leaders Leicester City to just three points before the Foxes clash with QPR, the lunchtime match could prove to be vital.

However, just moments before kick-off, BBC WM journalist Lewis Deighton took to X to show the scenes outside the stadium, with hundreds of supporters yet to get through the turnstiles.

"Shambles here at Huddersfield. Haven't moved in 10 minutes," he wrote.

Can Leeds United claim victory against Huddersfield?

There have been far too many instances of fans being stuck outside of football grounds while their teams kick off in recent weeks, with the Whites yet another example.

Fans will hope that they can stream into the stadium soon, with an important match against Huddersfield waiting for them on the pitch.

It is just not good enough. It is yet another example of football moving away from a fan-orientated sport, going hand-in-hand with costlier match tickets and horrific scheduling.

However, Huddersfield is not that far of a trip from West Yorkshire, which does not explain why so many fans are still yet to take their seats when the referee blows his whistle.

Luckily for the Whites, history is on their side when it comes to playing the Terriers, boasting three victories in their last three meetings. And considering Leeds' current form under Daniel Farke, it would take something dramatic for them to slip up against a relegation-threatened side.

In addition to their Championship form, the Whites will be keen to take revenge after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea on Wednesday 28 February. The full focus will now be on Premier League promotion.
