Early Cardiff City team news v Leeds United in FA Cup clash as bug wreaks havoc
Leeds United face Cardiff City in the third round of the FA Cup on January 3 in a game which will see the Whites travel to South Wales.
Some fresh early team news has been revealed by Bluebirds boss Mark Hudson ahead of the fixture, one which will be music to the ears of the Whites faithful.
Hudson confessed that a sickness “bug” is wreaking havoc on his squad leaving potentially four of his talents, Kion Etete, Callum Robinson, Gavin Whyte and Cedric Kipre, on the sidelines for the FA Cup clash.
“Kion will be his first day on the grass tomorrow, it took longer than we thought, with a slight hamstring strain. He is unlikely to be seen against Leeds,” said Hudson as quoted by Wales Online.
“Robbo is off ill and under the weather, unlikely you’ll see him. Gav has been ill, Cedric has been ill. Mahlon [Romeo] has had a scan on his hamstring and he could be four to six weeks out.
“There’s a lot that’s been going around. They have pushed themselves to the limit. When your body is empty you’ll likely pick up some bugs. Robbo has been off since the game.”
Build on West Ham draw.
Leeds United are still waiting for a win in the new year and there is no better opportunity to do so than a third-round FA Cup clash against a flailing Cardiff City.
Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville linked up beautifully for the Whites first goal against the Hammers and hopefully fans can see more of this partnership against Cardiff.
The game may be a decent chance for Jesse Marsch to try out some of his youngsters too, perhaps an FA Cup birth for Sonny Perkins?
Whatever tactics and formation the American opts for, the Whites should expect nothing less than a win on the day, especially against a side ravaged by illness.
Nevertheless, in the FA Cup anything can happen and cup upsets in the competition are an all-apparent factor of the game.
An away day to Wales is never easy either, but Marsch and his merry men should have more than enough to overcome whatever the Bluebirds throw at them.
