Leeds United draw v Portsmouth as bonkers footage drops on Sky Sports

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk reacted to a “bonkers” moment at Elland Road as Leeds United drew 3-3 with Portsmouth on Saturday (10 August).

The Whites took an early lead from the penalty spot, as Pascal Struijk slotted home from 12 yards out, but the newly-promoted Pompey had other ideas as Elias Sorensen equalised to silence the crowd.

That silence eventually turned to frustration as the away side took a surprise lead through Callum Lang, despite all of Leeds’ dominance, to lead 2-1 at half-time.

Speaking live via Sky Sports on Saturday (10 August, 1:14pm), she said: “It makes no sense – it’s bonkers. Leeds United have been the better team, far more opportunities.”

Leeds looked to have thrown it all away despite Wilfried Gnonto’s equaliser two minutes into the second half, with Lang netting from the penalty spot, but Brenden Aaronson spared their blushes in the fifth minute of added time before missing a huge chance.

Leeds United face tough challenge against newly-promoted Portsmouth

Daniel Farke would have been keen for his side to get off to the brightest start in the new Championship season, but England’s second division is never that simple.

Leeds no longer have Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville to depend on, but that is certainly no excuse, with so much talent remaining in the squad at Elland Road.

The manager will be under pressure after missing out on promotion last season, losing out on automatic promotion to Leicester City and Ipswich Town before facing defeat to Southampton at Wembley.

There is no doubt that the Whites should have secured promotion last season, especially having gone top of the Championship table for multiple weeks, and missing out on three points to Portsmouth is not good enough.

While the signs have been positive, dominating against Pompey, the only target will have been all three points on the opening day, so it is understandable to already see some frustration emerging.
