Michael Owen has predicted that Leeds United will get caught on the break by Arsenal and record their third loss in a row in the Premier League.
He said that “Leeds are exceptionally good” against sides that “fancy themselves to play” but are conceding too many goals.
He thinks that could play into Mikel Arteta’s hands on Sunday at Elland Road.
“I find Leeds are exceptionally good against teams that fancy themselves to play a bit,” Owen said in his column for BetVictor.
“When you come at Leeds, it plays into their hands as they have loads of energy to smother you and win key battles all over the pitch.
“They create lots of chances, but equally concede a lot as well. I think this could play into Mikel Arteta’s hands.
“If he is prepared to concede a bit of ground and soak up some Leeds pressure, I fancy the Gunners to take full advantage on the break.”
Good problem to have
This is a conundrum that Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa have to solve, but it’s a problem that we’re happy to have.
Leeds have played some thrilling, attacking football this season and matched sides such as Man City and Liverpool.
We want the game to be played like this and neutrals want the game to be played like this.
We don’t think it’s a case of needing a Plan B. But, we do think that the Leeds defence – the absolute foundation of the Championship-winning season – has to tighten up.
Robin Koch and Liam Cooper need games together to gel, and we need to see what Diego Llorente can do.
His injury means that he hasn’t even had a start for Leeds yet. The ongoing centre-back partnership could be any two out of that three and there’s no room for sentimentality in that decision.
If it’s Koch and Llorente then Liam Cooper will have to stand down.
