Journalist shares how long it could be before Augustin starts for Leeds

Anyone hoping for new striker signing Jean-Kevin Augustin to start for Leeds United on Saturday is set to be disappointed.

As we expected, Marcelo Bielsa tempered expectations in his pre-match press conference on Thursday lunchtime.

He said, like with any new player, it would take Augustin time to adapt at his new club.

Press association journalist Mark Walker reported him as saying that both new signings, Poveda and Augustin would need a month to settle in properly.

There was no hint as to whether Augustin would be in the squad for Saturday but we don’t see any reason why sitting on the bench wouldn’t help him adapt to the Championship.

Poveda made the bench for the game against Millwall without getting on the pitch.

Augustin – or Big Kev, as the Leeds fans have christened him – talked at the press conference and he said that he was physically fit but also appreciated that it would take him time to adapt to the new style of football.

However, he also said that he expected to come on off the bench “soon”.

We expected this but, like the rest of the Leeds fans, we’re itching to see him in a Leeds shirt.

There’s not that long left in the season, either. We’re 29 games through a 46-week season and we need solid back-up for Bamford now.

Just to tease the Leeds fans a bit more, Augustin said he was “fast, mobile and decent in front of goal”. It doesn’t seem like he’ll be lacking in confidence.
