Joel Piroe slammed in Leeds United 3-1 loss v Southampton, player not ‘involved enough’
Joel Piroe wasn’t “involved enough” for Leeds United in their 3-1 loss to Southampton, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue.
The Dutch attacker played the entire 90 minutes in the Championship clash at St Mary’s on Saturday (30 September).
Adam Armstrong scored twice and Will Smallbone added another for the hosts, with Pascal Struijk netting for the visitors.

“Jaidon Anthony crosses to Georginio Rutter who cushions it for Piroe on the penalty spot,” Donnohue wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post regarding a Leeds chance in the 78th minute.
“His effort is tame and straight at Gavin Bazunu. Dutch forward hasn’t been involved enough today. That was his moment.”

Major shock
Given how both newly relegated clubs have started the new Championship season, this result at St Mary’s is a major, major shock.
The Saints were struggling for confidence under Russell Martin going into the match, with the manager under plenty of pressure in his role.
But he has answered his critics in perfect fashion with a commanding win over Daniel Farke and Leeds, who really were full of confidence heading to St Mary’s.
Southampton forward Armstrong was the star of the show, netting a brace for the hosts before being substituted late on to a huge ovation from the crowd.
The Whites simply never got going in the match, with Armstrong’s fellow forward Piroe and indeed his Leeds teammate Rutter failing to have any impact in the final third.
It is a huge setback for the West Yorkshire outfit, who simply cannot afford to suffer defeats like this on a regular basis if they are to have any hope of getting back into the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, a journalist has mooted further development for one Whites ace as a Marcus Thuram comparison is made.
