Joel Piroe must be hooked at HT for Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday

Daniel Farke should hook Joel Piroe at half-time for Leeds United after a quiet first-half performance against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Whites go in at the interval 1-0 up on Sunday (19 January) thanks to an early strike from Manor Solomon after great work from Brenden Aaronson.

After taking the lead after three minutes, it was the away side who had the better of proceedings despite not being able to get on the scoresheet.

With a view to changing the tide in the second half, Farke could take Piroe off after what was a surprisingly quiet 45-minute showing.

The Dutchman was a potential injury doubt for the clash at Elland Road after missing last week’s FA Cup tie against Harrogate Town.

Despite this, the 25-year-old was fit and able to start against the Whites’ Yorkshire rivals but struggled to have a positive impact on proceedings.

The former Swansea City man had very few touches and was unable to create a chance for his teammates or trouble James Beadle in the Owls’ net.

Given that Piroe is recovering from an injury, a poorer performance doesn’t come as a surprise but it could be wise for Farke to make a change early rather than pushing the forward too far.

The last thing the German head coach needs is to be without the 10-goal attacker for a longer period of time.

Bringing Mateo Joseph on at half time could prove to be a wise move for fitness and tactically as the Spain Under-21s international allows the Whites to play on the counter when needed.

That point of difference could prove to be what the Whites need as they look to cement three points.
