Joe Gelhardt didn't play in Leeds United v Leicester due to knock in Under-21s game
Joe Gelhardt wasn’t involved as Leeds United drew 1-1 with Leicester at Elland on Sunday due to a knock, Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed.
Gelhardt, 19, has been a revelation this season but was nowhere to be seen when Bielsa’s team was confirmed ahead of kick-off in the Premier League clash.
Speaking after the game, as quoted by LeedsLive, Bielsa revealed why he, as well as Junior Firpo and Jamie Shackleton, didn’t make the game.
“Shackleton and Firpo are finishing their recovery from their injuries and Gelhardt, in the game on Tuesday, felt some discomfort that in itself is not an injury, but he did not feel 100 per cent for a high-level game,” said Bielsa.
Hopefully not serious
Bielsa has kept his cards close to his chest when it comes to injury issues in the past.
We saw with Adam Forshaw how we were never really told the full story by Bielsa while the lack of a timescale on Patrick Bamford’s current injury issue is concerning and frustrating.
With Gelhardt, Bielsa has said that it’s not an injury but has said that the young striker isn’t 100 per cent.
So what is it?
If he’s feeling some discomfort, that sounds like an injury.
Yes, it’s probably a very minor injury and he may be back in action once the international break is over but it’s quite a vague update from the manager.
We just pray that Gelhardt isn’t going to be out for long and can come back as soon as possible because he’s been superb for the Whites this season.
It would have been nice to have him come off the bench against Leicester on Sunday. He could have helped us seal an extra two points on top of what we already managed.
