Jermaine Beckford has heaped praise on new Leeds United signing Rodrigo saying that he’s “amazing” in the no.10 role.
Rodrigo – who signed for £27m this summer – tested positive for Covid-19 and has missed the last two games for Leeds, both 4-1 defeats to Leicester and Crystal Palace.
Talking on the latest episode of the Doing A Leeds podcast Beckford said, “Rodrigo, mate, this guy is amazing.
“I didn’t realise how much went through him until that Leicester game. We just miss him, we miss that creativity, and the ball sticking in that number 10 role.
“My frustration is that we didn’t get him sooner. I desperately can’t wait for him to come back and fortunately, he’ll be back after the international break.”
Co-host Matthew Lewis said that Rodrigo has already proved that he’s a £27m player.
Leeds fans were surprised when Rodrigo was earmarked for the no.10 role at Leeds.
Rodrigo plays at number nine for Spain and the thinking was that he was the striker signing that Leeds had said was their priority in the summer.
Instead, Patrick Bamford has hit the Premier League running and it’s now looking highly unlikely anyone else will start up top for Leeds this year barring injury or suspension.
And Rodrigo has proved a massive hit in the attacking midfield position.
He’s put in two absolute masterclasses so far for Leeds – one in the second half of the game against Man City and the other in the 3-0 win against Aston Villa.
In the Villa game, he hit a 93% pass accuracy with 80% of his long passes hitting their target. [WyScout]
He was raking some absolutely glorious balls across the pitch and the sense was that when he got the ball, he wasn’t losing it.
He’s been a massive miss for Leeds.
