Adrian Durham: Leeds player can't defend but passes like a Rolls Royce

talkSPORT host Adrian Durham has slammed big-money Leeds United signing Diego Llorente, saying he “could not defend at all” in the 2-0 defeat to West Ham.

He said that Llorente sums up Leeds in that he’s terrible at the back but an absolute “Rolls Royce” at passing.

Llorente lost his man for the second West Ham goal as Leeds conceded again from a set piece.

Talking on Drive (talkSPORT, Tuesday, 5pm) Durham said, “Leeds are actually really good for a newly promoted side and they’ve got some really good players.

“Defensively, Bielsa talked about it last night, they need to work on a lot of things, especially from set-pieces.

“Make no mistake, they’ve got some good players and Kalvin Phillips is one of them, but their defending was poor, their finishing was poor.

“The centre-back, Llorente, he sums Leeds up. He could not defend at all last night but look at him passing the ball, what a Rolls Royce he is, incredible.”

Llorente will come good

We think this is harsh.

Llorente has only just got back in the Leeds side after injury and we think he’s settling in nicely.

The Bielsa system takes a while to adapt to and it’s not just Llorente who is having problems from set-pieces.

However, he needs to adapt quickly. The second West Ham goal was a really poor one to give away and there’s no getting away from the fact that Llorente was to blame.

Aaron Cresswell was always going to be a threat from set-pieces and Leeds should have been more switched on for a good, but fairly predictable delivery into the far post.

Llorente was the man marking Craig Dawson but he lost him as soon as the ball dropped over Illan Meslier and into the six-yard box.

The stooping header was a good one but Llorente was nowhere near it and for a full Spain international, it’s not good enough.
