We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has urged Leeds to hijack Leicester’s reported £15m deal for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
The Daily Mail has claimed that Edouard wants to hook back up with former boss Brendan Rodgers in what they call a “huge deal” and that Leicester think they’ve won the race to sign him.
Edouard will be down to the final 12 months of his contract in the summer in a season where he’s currently the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer
He’s scored 16 goals in 25 Premiership games this campaign and 81 in 161 games across all competitions in his time at Celtic.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Leeds need a new striker as back-up for Bamford.
“The way they play now Bamford has become as important as Harry Kane to Tottenham and Jamie Vardy to Leicester.
“The formation the team plays, Bielsa is very rigid in the final third of the pitch and there’s no one else who can do his job.
“I think Raphinha was brought in with the possibility of him playing as back-up, Rodrigo as well, but neither is an out-and-out nine. I think there’s a need in the summer to bring a striker in.
“£15m for Odsonne Edouard is a really great deal. If anyone can get him for £15m it would be amazing.
“I’d love to see Leeds hijack that deal. Edouard can play as a nine and he’s strong. He’s a player who can also play behind the striker.
“If you can get him for £15m… I’d like to see Leeds hijack that deal but I think a lot of other clubs will be in for him too.
“He won’t be on Premier League wages either at Celtic. It won’t take a lot to buy out his contract.”
Leeds have been linked with a move for Edouard before, with the Mirror claiming Leeds were launching an ‘ambitious bid for the French striker last summer.
Leicester were also linked in that story but it was said their interest wouldn’t put Leeds off.
However, the Rodgers link could be hard to get past and the Leicester deal seems to be well advanced.
