Illan Meslier: Leeds United star destroyed by BBC pundit as new footage emerges
Simon Johnson has slammed Leeds United Meslier for his blunder in the Hull City clash on Saturday.
The Whites appeared to be cruising to an away win, but the Frenchman’s performance gave the Tigers a chance to take something from the game, which they did, with the full-time score 3-3 at the MKM Stadium.
The incident even saw Meslier’s Leeds teammates in anguish as they knew he should be doing way better with that delivery.
Johnson, a BBC pundit, wrote on X: “I’ve tried my best to not show any negativity towards Mes. However, this is unforgivable at the level. When you have a group that are grafting in front of you and you’re continually making blunders, it’s solid destroying.
“My old man was ‘FUMING!’ Time for change.”
Illan Meslier cannot be the first choice for Leeds United from here on in
Enough is enough and Meslier cannot continue to cost Leeds points this season.
If Daniel Farke does not trust Karl Darlow between the sticks, then it’s time to dip into the transfer market for a new goalkeeper.
It might be difficult to sign a top calibre keeper in the Championship but given the club’s promotion chances, they could put in a clause in his contract where-in he can leave for a reduced fee in case the Whites do not get promoted to the Premier League.
Alternatively, they can turn to the Premier League or one of Europe’s top leagues and sign a number two on loan or even an audacious swoop for a first choice in Germany or Italy as they’d be tempted to play in the Premier League next season.
Meslier showed promise a few seasons ago and looked to be among the best young keepers in Europe, but his performances have dipped since then.
Now, he is a liability at Elland Road and even his ardent supporters are finding it hard to defend him.
