Sky Sports pundit Jermaine Beckford has said that he wants to see Leeds United and West Brom promoted if the Championship season is ended early.
The two teams are clear at the top of the table and have been in the top two for the majority of the season.
Talking on the Football Show (Sky Sports, Saturday, 11am), Beckford, “It’s vitally important the season is finished. But as long as it’s safe to do it. Behind closed doors is a great idea, a great way to do it. However, the financial costs will be big.
“Another issue is the venues, where the games would take place.
“If the league can’t continue I’d like to see Leeds and West Brom promoted. It’s difficult with teams in the play-offs, it would almost be a lucky dip.
“No relegation would be a great idea with double the number of teams relegated next season but that would lead to a fixture pile-up.”
It’s tough to find a pundit who doesn’t think Leeds should get promoted.
And the longer this crisis goes on for, the more convinced we are that Leeds will end up in the Premier League.
Null and voiding the Championship is the only scenario left where Leeds don’t end up being promoted.
And the FA is set to block any attempt to take relegation and promotion off the table in the Premier League.
The big question now is how and where will Leeds secure promotion?
Will it be on the pitch behind closed doors? Or will it be via a vote between Championship clubs and a congratulatory email from the EFL?
We hope it’s the former. We think it’s going to be the latter.
