‘I’m sick of this’ – Adrian Durham comes out swinging for Leeds after major controversy emerges
talkSPORT host Adrian Durham has come out swinging for Leeds United after a major controversy emerged in the game between Aston Villa and Sheffield United last night.
Villa’s keeper Orjan Nyland clearly took the ball over the line after he fumbled a free-kick but it wasn’t picked up by Hawk-Eye.
Hawk-Eye released a statement apologising for the error which was clearly shown on replays.
But there was a lot of bad feeling from Leeds over the incident after the incident in the Championship game with Villa last season.
It was Aston Villa who swarmed the Leeds players and started jostling on the pitch after Mateusz Klich scored while one of their players was on the ground.
In response, Marcelo Bielsa ordered his players to let Aston Villa score.
Neither Dean Smith nor John Terry did anything last night and it prompted a response from the official Leeds Twitter account.
Leeds sent out a brilliant tweet making reference to the incident and pointing out that they were awarded the FIFA Fair Play award after Bielsa’s actions.
Durham came out swinging for Leeds, retweeting it and saying, “You’ve got to love the people running @LUFC twitter account. And they’re right as well. Hypocrisy from Villa.”
On talkSPORT (Drive, Wednesday, 6.45pm) he added, “I’m sick of this, these referees… just use your brain. The technology has messed up, use your brain. How can they have spoiled the return of football?”
Leeds > Aston Villa; Bielsa > Smith
What did anyone expect?
Nyland must have known what he’d done – he was holding the ball behind the post at one point. He was actually standing in the side netting.
All the Sheffield United players in the penalty area knew what had happened. It follows the Aston Villa players knew as well.
Durham is right, it’s rank hypocrisy and we’re glad that it shows that when it comes to morals on the pitch, we’re head and shoulders above Smith’s side.
Craig Wilson, aka Digital Wilson, in charge of the Leeds Twitter account, ensures our tweets are head and shoulders above any other clubs too.
