‘He hasn’t’ – Graham Smyth delivers update to Augustin situation amid Twitter rumours

Jean-Kevin Augustin hasn’t been sent back to his parent club by Leeds United, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.

The Leeds striker has suffered some sort of injury in training – thought to be a recurrence of his hamstring problem – but the extent of the injury is not yet known.

Augustin is currently being assessed by Leeds United’s medical team, headed up by Rob Price, at Thorp Arch.

MOT Leeds News started hearing rumours that Augustin had been sent home around 10am, one hour before the news of his injury was posted on Twitter by Phil Hay.

After the injury was made public, there were plenty of Leeds fans who were perpetuating the rumour that something else was wrong.

However, these rumours have now been debunked by Smyth.

It leaves Leeds fans with a nervy wait until more news comes out, but if it is a recurrence of his hamstring problem it’s very possible that his season could be done.

Where would that leave Leeds? Well, it’s highly unlikely that Augustin would have started against Cardiff anyway, with Patrik Bamford being Bielsa’s striker of choice all season.

However, CEO Angus Kinnear had said the striker had been working hard and the thinking at the club was that he would play a “critical” part in the season run-in.

That’s obviously in jeopardy now.

Leeds do have back-up in the form of Tyler Roberts and the good news for Leeds is that he was flying in the last couple of games.

He scored twice in just a 23-minute cameo in the win against Hull at the end of February and could now be set to play an absolutely vital role for Leeds in the remaining nine games.

It does add extra pressure on Bamford, though, and it’s so, so important that he stays injury-free now.
