Graham Smyth slams ‘desperately poor’ Willy Gnonto after what Leeds United did v Millwall
Graham Smyth has slammed Leeds United for crossing the ball against Millwall after describing a Wilfried Gnonto attempt as “desperately poor”.
The Whites’ unbeaten run which has stretched over eight games came to an end at The Den on Wednesday 6 November as a Japhet Tanganga goal in the first half secured three points for the Lions.
Daniel Farke’s side just didn’t create enough clear-cut chances with Smyth taking to X (6 November) to voice his frustrations with the tactical approach.
He said: “Not sure that aerial crosses are the way Leeds will get back into this. Happy to be proven wrong but Gnonto has just tried one and it was desperately poor.”
Willy Gnonto Leeds United performance slammed v Millwall
The Leeds supporters in South East London will have been left frustrated by the performance as their side failed to break down the home side’s defence.
It is well known under Neil Harris that the Lions are hard to break down and that was only made harder when Tanganga opened the scoring.
This was their only true chance of the game but went down as a big chance, while the Whites failed to create a single one despite having 75 per cent possession [FotMob].
It has to be said that this has to be down to the wasteful nature of Farke’s front line with Gnonto often being the one who fans look at as the main man at Elland Road.
This wasn’t shown against Millwall as the Italian missed efforts on goal which he should have done much better with while also sending aimless crosses into the box on different occasions.
It was an off day for the 21-year-old, who was eventually hooked by Farke, but it just wasn’t good enough.
