Graham Smyth shares Illan Meslier injury scare after what happened in Leeds United win v Huddersfield Town
Graham Smyth has shared that Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier may have suffered an injury during the win over Huddersfield.
The Whites waltzed to a dominant 4-1 win over their rivals, finding themselves 4-0 up at half-time after a masterclass from Crysencio Summerville and Daniel James as they scored two each.
But after the first goal Meslier ran over to the bench and Karl Darlow was sent to warm up according to Smyth following an attempted clearance that was partially blocked, although no substitution was made in the end.
“Darlow sent to warm up,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (28 October).
“Meslier came over to the bench during the goal celebrations. Perhaps that charge down/collision caused a problem.”
Hopefully nothing
The fact that Meslier was able to complete the rest of the game would suggest that there is nothing to worry about, but we’ve seen silly things happen in the past.
Meslier went to clear the ball and a fair block meant there was a collision, and he was moving a bit gingerly afterwards for a short while.
But he came out after half-time with the game essentially won at that point and that suggests the manager doesn’t envision any more issues coming in the future from it and it was probably just a knock.
If it does turn out to be something then at least we have an excellent alternative option in Darlow ready to step in at a moment’s notice, so there shouldn’t be too much to worry about in truth.
Obviously though we want our best players available, especially with Leicester City up next on Friday night, so fingers crossed Meslier is fine.
