Illan Meslier scores poor 5/10 as Crysencio Summerville stars with 10/10 MOTM showing – Leeds United player ratings v Huddersfield Town
Leeds United picked up a dominant victory over rivals Huddersfield with a 4-1 win at Elland Road thanks to a stunning performance from Crysencio Summerville.
The Whites were dominant in the first half and should’ve probably had a couple of goals before Daniel James finished off a flying counter-attack with a powerful strike from the edge of the box to make it 1-0. And it was 2-0 on the half-hour mark as Summerville cut in on his right foot and slotted past the goalkeeper through a crowd of bodies.
Leeds didn’t take their foot off the gas as they made it 3-0 just minutes later when Summerville broke away and slipped into James, who took a touch and blasted it past the keeper for his second of the game. Summerville then made it 4-0 with his second on the stroke of half-time after brilliant work by Georginio Rutter down the wing.
The second half was slower as Leeds relaxed a bit more and they were punished when Meslier failed to hold a long-range strike which allowed Michal Helik to tap in and make it 4-1.
Here is how MOT Leeds News rated the performance of each Whites ace for the game..
Illan Meslier – 5/10
Had next to nothing to do throughout the game but was assertive in possession and ensured that he was authoritative when he needed to be. Will be furious not to get the clean sheet and should have done better for their goal.
Jamie Shackleton – 6/10
In a game with very few negatives and plenty of positives, Shackleton didn’t do much to catch the eye. Most of the team’s attacks in the first-half came down the left, and he didn’t have much to do defensively either. An average game where everyone else was flying.
Joe Rodon – 7/10
The Welsh loanee didn’t have much defending to do in truth as Huddersfield were that poor, but he swept up at the back brilliantly and kept our attacks ticking over with his excellent passing before being forced off with what seemed like a hamstring injury just after the hour mark.
Pascal Struijk – 7/10
Bounced back from his own goal in midweek with a stellar performance at the back alongside Rodon, with excellent passing out from the back and solid positioning to prevent the Huddersfield attackers from having a sniff for the vast majority of the game.
Sam Byram – 7/10
Was heavily involved in the build-up and everything good down the left in the first-half, and showed his importance to the team with his ability on the ball and positioning. Wasn’t a shock that Huddersfield came into the game more after he went off.

Ethan Ampadu – 8/10
The conductor and heartbeat of this team once again completed 90 minutes and was fantastic throughout the game. Took a few heavy challenges that were probably orange cards, but got on with his game in classy fashion and was involved in everything good the team did.
Glen Kamara – 8/10
Looks to be the best option to go alongside Ampadu with performances like this, which is saying something considering how good Archie Gray has been this season. He had great energy to get up and down the pitch, showed great technical quality to link with the attack and was strong defensively too. What a bargain.
Daniel James – 9/10
Potentially James’ best performance in a Leeds shirt. He was constantly running in behind and stretching the defence, while his first thought on the ball was always positive. More than deserving of his place in the starting lineup right now. Sinisterra who?
Joel Piroe – 7/10
A stunning attacking performance from the team and while Piroe was very good again, he just didn’t stand out as much as his colleagues around him today. Some good touches but he lacked a goal and will be annoyed not to have added to his tally.
Crysencio Summerville – 10/10
Easily the man of the match despite only playing for an hour. Summerville was genuinely unplayable in the first-half and Huddersfield couldn’t do anything to stop him getting two goals and two assists. It’s no wonder Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on him ahead of January.
Georginio Rutter – 8/10
Another brilliant performance from the young Frenchman who has taken to Farke’s system like a duck to water. Even without a goal his overall play was spectacular and it showed why he gets the nod ahead of Bamford when he can play so well without even getting on the scoresheet.
