Graeme Souness wants to knows if style is greater than result for Leeds boss Bielsa

Graeme Souness was not impressed with Leeds United style of play after their 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Arsenal on Saturday at Elland Road.

The Sky Sports pundit was reacting last night (18 December) to the performance of the hosts, and he claimed Marcelo Bielsa loves to stick to his style even when a defeat is almost guaranteed.

The Gunners strolled to victory as the Whites failed to mount any serious challenge against them, and Souness reckons the fans continue to back the head coach because of his philosophy despite the woeful results.

He said: “I want to ask Mr Bielsa that question if I ever meet him. “What’s more important to you, is it the style of football you want to play and be on the front foot which is admirable or is it winning football matches?”

“I think I know the answer. What’s more important to this man is how he plays. We don’t really grasp what he thinks because he’s not speaking English to us, but I’d imagine it’s how he plays more than the result

“And you saw Leeds supporters at the end still getting behind the team. The answer is there for you.”

Great question

Is it style over result for Bielsa? It is a question everyone knows the answer to, but the Elland Road outfit risk going down if nothing changes going forward.

Going toe to toe with clubs better than them have not ended well in 2021-22.

They have suffered heavy losses at the hands of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal, and it does not appear that they have any hope against Liverpool on Boxing Day.

Jurgen Klopp’s men more often than not punish teams for their mistakes, and Leeds are struggling with cutting them out from their games right now.

Leeds United

Playing out from the back and holding on to possession is not working for them at the moment, but it appears they would rather suffer defeats than adapt to their opponents.

The Premier League is beginning to look tough for Bielsa’s injury-stricken squad, and things need to change in January.

The Argentine’s thin squad has been stretched to the limit, and he has to make new signings next month if he wants to keep playing this way.

In other Leeds United news, Whites chiefs recently jetted out of the UK for talks.
