'Good luck for the play-offs' – These Leeds fans delighted after EFL post about Brentford

Football fans are a funny bunch and the Leeds United fanbase is no different.

We’re always on the lookout for edges and slights, either real or imaginary, and are deeply superstitious.

One of the most enduring of these superstitions is that the recipient of the manager of the month award will be cursed and his side will subsequently (and immediately) go on a bad run.

That’s why the Leeds supporters were absolutely delighted to see that Brentford manager Thomas Frank had been given the award by the EFL this month.

The news was announced on Friday morning after Frank’s side have seemingly turned into an unstoppable force.

They’re on a run of six games in a row and have been pushing both West Brom and Leeds United hard at the top of the Championship.

Brentford have a really tough game against Derby next – they travel to the midlands on Saturday for the early kick-off.

And it’s not just Leeds fans who think they’re going to lose now. This Brentford fan has given up the ghost, too, saying, “There go the automatic promotion places”.

It might be that the curse is actually as mundane as a team that’s over-achieving reverting to the mean, but we’ll take that at the moment.

And the record from 19/20 bodes well for Leeds.

A helping hand from an unlikely source in Derby would push Leeds to the brink of the Premier League.

Here are the best reactions from Leeds United fans who also believe in the tooth fairy…
