Gnonto baffled as Bamford touchline incident spotted in Leeds draw v Blackburn
Patrick Bamford left Willy Gnonto baffled after he told him to go back to the dug-outs despite Daniel Farke telling him to warm up to come on for Leeds United in their draw against Blackburn.
The attacker was sent to warm up by the German as he was seeking a winner but, due to some confusion with the fourth official board showing the wrong number earlier in the game, things went a bit pear-shaped.
The clash on 1 January ended in a 1-1 draw with both teams sharing the spoils after what was a fairly end-to-end game.
Speaking live on BBC Radio Leeds (1 January, 16:17pm), Buchan shared what he saw on the sidelines during the game.
“Willy Gnonto is so confused by the way, he’s a highly intelligent guy but he just looked incredibly confused on pitchside right now,” said the BBC Radio Leeds journalist.
“He was still warming up was Willy wearing a pink vest over the top of his kit and Patrick Bamford came back and told him to go back to the dugout and he sort of put his hands up and went ‘what, what, me’ and then Bamford pushed him back and he is now back in the dugouts”.
Leeds United were not at their best against Blackburn
Although the Whites are still at the top of the Championship table after drawing their game against Rovers 1-1, a lot more could and should have come from the West Yorkshire outfit.
They have by far one of the best teams in the second-tier and although they’ve shown their class on more than one occasion this term, their consistency isn’t quite there all of the time.

They’ve dropped points in two of their last five games and while that would be a decent result if the dropped points were against teams such as Sheffield United and Burnley, the fact they’ve come against Blackburn and Preston is slightly concerning.
At the moment, things are still going in the right direction but if Leeds fail to improve their consistency across the board, they could find themselves in the playoff places once again and after their experience last year, that’s likely the last thing that the Whites want.
