Patrick Bamford claims he was 'kicked off the ball' as Leeds smashed Burnley

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford scored his 16th goal of the season in the 2-0 win against Southampton this week but had a more frustrating game in the 4-0 win against Burnley last weekend.

He didn’t score and was subbed off before the hour mark and just before Leeds’ second goal.

He admits that he was annoyed at the decision to take him off and said he was repeatedly ‘kicked off the ball’ by the Burnley players.

Talking on the Official Leeds United Podcast Bamford admitted he was “glad we battered them”.

“The Burnley game was a tough game, I was a little bit annoyed to come off but… I think the reason I was annoyed is the game opened up when I came off,” Bamford said.

“We got the second goal really quickly and then it got stretched. But the first half was a battle and they were gunning for me. I was getting kicked off the ball every five minutes. It was frustrating but I’m glad we battered them.”

Pundit material

The Official Leeds United Podcast, like the team itself this season, has been a real breath of fresh air.

It’s great to hear Bamford talking candidly about the games and it will do his ambitions of becoming a pundit after he retires the world of good.

16 goals is a fantastic return and he’s still got the West Brom game to go on Sunday in front of the Leeds fans.

Hopefully, they’ll be able to inspire him to get close to 20, which would be a phenomenal achievement and give Gareth Southgate something to think about when he announces the England squad for the Euros.

We don’t think Bamford will make it, barring a few injuries, but even to be in the mix is a huge achievement for him.

Leeds can finish eighth with a win and that too would be a massive achievement for the club.
