Gary Lineker and Danny Murphy blown away by Raphinha in Leeds United 2-2 v Everton

Gary Lineker and Danny Murphy were blown away by Raphinha after the Brazilian scored the equaliser for Leeds United in their 2-2 draw with Everton.

Leeds had to come from behind twice to earn a point against Rafa Benitez’s side at Elland Road on Saturday.

And it took something special from Raphinha to seal the draw.

Leeds United

“At the end of it, he gets a wonderful goal,” said Murphy on Match of the Day on Sunday night [BBC iPlayer].

Lineker said: “Brilliant goal.”

Murphy continued: “It’s a tremendous strike, technically. He takes his time, it’s paced with the inside of his foot, that side-foot, he doesn’t thrash at it and there you can see the bend on it. Pickford’s got no chance. And the game deserved a goal like that.”

Lineker then added: “Gorgeous, gorgeous goal.”

The man

Raphinha was at his absolute best on Saturday in that draw against Everton.

The former Rennes winger was behind pretty much everything good that Marcelo Bielsa’s men did as he provided a real driving force in the attack.

Raphinha’s goal then summed up his performance – it was a beauty.

It’s no surprise to see Lineker and Murphy waxing lyrical about the striker and it was great to see him bounce back after such a dismal performance against Manchester United last week.

Leeds have been handed a tough start to their Premier League campaign.

There are few tougher places to go than Old Trafford and Everton were always going to be tough to beat.

Next week we play Crewe in the Carabao Cup and then Burnley in the Premier League so you would hope that they are the games that will help get our season kick-started.

In other Leeds United news, this big-money ace could be heading to the Elland Road exit doors.
