Faye Carruthers amazed at what she’s told about Leeds United player pre-West Brom

TalkSPORT presenter Faye Carruthers was amazed by the lack of depth in the Leeds United squad ahead of their contest with West Brom, which led to James Debayo’s inclusion among the subs.

Carruthers was told live on air [17 August, 12:05pm] that Leeds were including youngster Debayo on the substitutes’ bench against Albion at The Hawthorns, with Charlie Crew also among the subs due to a lack of senior options.

Daniel Farke currently has just 20 first-team players in his entire squad, which includes the absent Georginio Rutter, bound for a move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

“Gosh,” Carruthers said in response to that. “How do Leeds United go into a new season with not enough players?”

Leeds United have real squad concerns

It’s unquestionable that Leeds United have quality, even despite some of their major departures this summer.

However, the level of exposure the squad already has to its depth and how any injuries would affect Farke’s side is madness – especially with their status heading into the season as dead-cert promotion favourites in the view of many.

The club will undoubtedly bring in new faces, but the premium they may have to pay for their targets to clubs looking to take full advantage of their practical desperation is a genuine fear.

Georginio Rutter left Leeds United to join Brighton

Leeds had set a few PSR demons to rest when selling Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and Crysencio Summerville, but not to adequately replace them or even bulk out the squad with the Championship season having already started is poor form.

Some fans’ opinions on the campaign ahead have now turned on a knife-edge, and the next fortnight could be utterly season defining.

In other Leeds news, some difficult news regarding a clause put into Georginio Rutter’s deal by Victor Orta.
