Leeds United are set to lose up to £5.9million of the money they're making from selling Georginio Rutter, according to Florian Plettenberg.

However, it is understood that due to a sell-on clause in the deal that saw Victor Orta sign Rutter from Hoffenheim in January 2023, a portion of that fee will head to the Bundesliga club.

Plettenberg claims that Leeds are losing somewhere between £5.1million and £5.9million to Hoffenheim due to this sell-on clause, meaning the Whites are getting a total of £34million, which is £9million more than what was paid for him a year and a half ago [The Athletic].

Victor Orta comes back to haunt Leeds United yet again

Leeds fans feel like the club has been decimated by all these clauses that Orta added into deals when he was signing players in the Premier League.

We saw last summer how players like Max Wober, Brenden Aaronson and Jack Harrison all left Elland Road on loan deals due to stupid relegation clauses in their contracts.

And now, this summer, we've seen Crysencio Summerville and Rutter both leave due to release clauses being activated.

On top of that release clause for Rutter, there's a further club that entitles Hoffenheim to a portion of the fee that the Whites are receiving for him.

It's quite a substantial amount, meaning that the German club are now set to make around £30.3million on the Frenchman as he cost them just £700,000 in 2021 when they signed him from Rennes.

Leeds are making a tiny profit on the forward with the transfer fee but with wages and other costs factored in, they're likely to either break even or make a loss.
