Farke has to drag off Aaronson instantly for Leeds v QPR as ‘Brutal’ truth emerges
Daniel Farke has an easy decision to make at half-time of Leeds United’s match at QPR with his side staring down the barrel of defeat.
Leeds went into the break 2-1 down for only the second time this season after goals from Koki Saito and Steve Cook put QPR in control at Loftus Road, before Junior Firpo’s ball across the face of goal rolled in.
Saito’s first-time curling strike to open the scoring was quickly followed up by a bullet header from an unmarked Cook from just inside the box, with Leeds’ usually-watertight defence all at sea at Loftus Road.
Farke is a manger who rarely makes wholesale, if any, changes early in matches, but if Leeds are to make the most of the lifeline Firpo has provided, that’s exactly what needs to happen at half-time.

Aaronson must be axed amid ‘Brutal’ Scott Minto question
Saito’s opener has resulted in Leeds completely falling to pieces in both defence and attack, but it could have been avoided had Brenden Aaronson not sloppily gifted him possession inside the United box.
Aaronson’s lack of output at the other end has seen his place in Farke’s team come under scrutiny of late, and speaking on talkSPORT (12:57pm), Scott Minto read out a “brutal” truth in the aftermath.
Minto said: “I’ve just had someone say to me – ’is that Brenden Aaronson’s first assist of 2025?”
Lead commentator Alex Crook replied: “That’s absolutely brutal, isn’t it?”

Leeds lifeline doesn’t mask need for changes by Daniel Farke
Although that late cross from Firpo – which looked to have taken nicks off both QPR defender Morgan Fox and Jayden Bogle on its way in – halves the deficit to 2-1, it doesn’t cancel out Leeds’ display.
The ghosts of April 2023 are alive and well at Loftus Road based on that first-half performance from the visitors, and though QPR won’t win this one 4-0, they’ve still been by far the better team so far.
Aaronson’s desperately poor pass gifting Saito the assist of a firecracking finish is yet another sign that the American is in need of a break, having been dropped by Mauricio Pochettino from the USA squad.
Leeds fans won’t expect Farke to make many, if any changes at the break – especially after Firpo’s goal – but if United are to complete their turnaround in the second half, an injection of fresh legs is sorely needed.
