‘Ridiculous again from EFL’, ‘Corrupt’ – Many Leeds fans fume at official Championship update

Leeds United put out a cheeky response to the news that their clash against Stoke has been moved to Thursday at 5pm after being selected for Sky Sports.

Leeds fans are used to games being switched, often with little notice, and the Leeds’ tweet read, “You know things are starting to get back to normal when… ‘Leeds United’s clash with Stoke will now kick off at 5pm on Thursday 9th July after being selected for TV.'”

The Stoke game was originally scheduled for 7.45pm on Tuesday.

There are plenty of Leeds fans who are furious at the news and you can understand why.

There are two main points.

The first is that a lot of people are back at work and will still be travelling home when the game kicks off.

Secondly, lots of fans have pointed out that it means Leeds playing after their rivals again.

They think that this will ramp the pressure up on Leeds if their promotion rivals win.

Leeds play after West Brom and Fulham in the opening round of fixtures, too. Fulham welcome Brentford in the opening game, the early kick-off on Saturday. West Brom play Birmingham at 3pm on Saturday.

Leeds, meanwhile, face a long travel to Cardiff for a midday kick-off on Sunday, with it still to be confirmed whether they will head down the night before or fly on the morning.

Either way, it’s not the ideal way to restart the campaign and some Leeds fans think it’s a deliberate play from the EFL and Sky.
