Efan Ekoku thrilled by Leeds star Patrick Bamford in 2-0 win v Southampton

Leeds United guaranteed their top 10 status in the Premier League this evening with a 2-0 win over Southampton.

Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts found the back of the net in the second-half at St Mary’s, as Marcelo Bielsa’s men came on strong at the end.

Efan Ekoku was thrilled by the performance of the English forward against the Saints, and even handed him the Man of the Match award.

Speaking during live coverage of the clash on Sky Sports, Ekoku was thoroughly impressed by the English international hopeful.

“It’s amazing isn’t it,” he said.

“Man of the Match for me is Patrick Bamford, but Leeds all round have been absolutely fantastic. The best striker on the pitch.”

Leeds have really proved their worth as a top-half Premier League side in the past couple of months, only losing once in their last 10.

Bamford has played a crucial role in that run without hardly scoring, but this goal proved he has not lost his strikers’ instinct.

It was the perfect finish.

Everyone else appeared to stop as the ball looked like running out, but Bamford knew it was staying in and got there first to slide it under Alex McCarthy.

Gareth Southgate has to be watching, with Bamford the in-form Englishman in the Premier League this month, which will be crucial ahead of the European Championships.

Another goal against West Brom on Sunday would be perfect, and would surely make Bamford impossible to overlook for the Three Lions.
