Efan Ekoku: James Ward-Prowse could have been sent off in clash v Leeds

Efan Ekoku has insisted that Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse could have been sent off in their clash with Leeds United.

The England international tangled with Diego Llorente in the opening 45 minutes and appeared to elbow the Spaniard in the face.

Although theatrical, the Sky Sports pundit claimed that Ward-Prowse has to be more careful when in these types of tussles.

Speaking during live commentary of the clash on Sky Sports, Ekoku admitted that it could have ended much worst for Ward-Prowse.

“It’s careless,” he said.

“He raises his arm and he’s a lucky boy if he gets away with that. You have to be very careful.”

Theatrical.

Although we have to admit that there wasn’t much in this clash, Ward-Prowse certainly did lift his arm when Llorente was behind him.

Unfortunately, we have seen the Spaniard hit the floor easily before this season, as he did against Aston Villa at Elland Road, and that probably worked against him.

There was clearly nothing wrong with him as he did bounce up quickly to complain, but the principle stands, you simply can’t swing your arms like that.

Ekoku is spot on, Ward-Prowse is lucky, especially because the incident was checked by VAR. What can we expect though?

There is no consistency in the Premier League, especially when Peter Bankes is the man in charge, he was shocking all evening.

This was just a number of decisions he got wrong, and it is something we simply have to put up with at this level, it’s not good enough.
