'Devastating' – Ornstein delivers major injury update as Leeds star suffers huge blow
It was a day of celebration at Elland Road on Sunday but some of the gloss was taken off the Leeds United win after a late injury to Kalvin Phillips.
He was booked for a wild challenge on Grady Diangana in the closing minutes of the 3-1 in but came off worst.
And, a report from The Athletic claims that Leeds are very worried about his injury.
The report says: “The Athletic understands that although the extent of Phillip’s injury is as yet unknown, there is concern from Leeds about its severity.
“The news will come as a further blow to England manager Gareth Southgate, after it emerged that Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is likely to miss the tournament because of surgery on a knee injury.”
In a follow-on report, David Ornstein revealed that Leeds fear that he’s suffered a dislocation which he said would be “devastating” to his Euro hopes.
Pray for Phillips
This would be such a major blow to Phillips and we desperately hope that he recovers in time.
The challenge was unnecessary with the game won and nothing left to play for but this is part of Phillips’ game.
He’s missed a few games this season but he’s generally back on the pitch quickly and he’s got almost three weeks before the tournament starts.
However, we know he’d be devastated if he does miss out through a needless injury.
Phillips has had another brilliant season, getting himself in the England side and cementing his reputation as one of the best holding midfielders in the country.
He’ll form the spine of this brilliant Leeds side again next season but we hope he can do that on the back on a triumph with England.
