Daniel Farke makes Illan Meslier stance clear after Leeds United v Hull City
Daniel Farke refused to openly criticise Illan Meslier after his errors cost Leeds United two points against Hull City, Adam Pope has said.
The BBC Radio Leeds commentator posted on X (4 January), having spoken to a “very disappointed” Farke after United were held at the MKM Stadium, drawing 3-3 having been 3-1 up in the last 10 minutes.
Meslier was easily chipped by Abu Kamara inside five minutes, and after the Whites scored three times to turn things around, the Frenchman flapped at a corner to gift the Tigers forward his second goal after another huge error.
Pope said: “Farke very disappointed with letting the victory slip away, but not willing to publicly criticise Meslier after his mistakes at Hull.”
Daniel Farke facing Illan Meslier decision at Leeds United
Had the Whites not suffered a final 10 minutes of Meslier-induced madness in East Yorkshire, they’d currently be sitting three points clear at the top of the Championship.
The points being shared at the MKM Stadium still leaves them a point above the rest at the summit, but Meslier’s display will leave every other manager in the second tier rubbing their hands together.

Few weak points are yet to be exploited in Farke’s side – hence the usual setup of many a team to visit Elland Road – but Meslier’s hapless performance between the sticks is certainly proving to be one.
The 24-year-old is in his fifth season as United’s number one, but his position has arguably never been more under threat given the calibre of goalkeepers the Peacocks have been linked with this month.
A January signing between the sticks could spell the end of Meslier’s time at Elland Road, but as the errors stack up, fewer and fewer fans will be disappointed if Farke permits an exit the other way.
