Chris Sutton wowed by Tyler Adams as Leeds United ace shines in USA draw v England
Chris Sutton was more impressed by Leeds United star Tyler Adams than he was by Declan Rice as England drew 0-0 with USA on Friday night.
England took a huge step towards qualifying for the round of 16 with their point against the States but the performance of Gareth Southgate’s men was roundly criticised by fans and booed loudly in the Al Bayt Stadium at full-time.
While £100million-rated Rice only did enough to earn a 4.5/10 rating from Sutton, Adams impressed him far more with the Leeds midfielder earning an 8/10 from the ex-England striker.
Writing in the Daily Mail (print edition, 26 November, page 123), Sutton said: “England’s nightwatchman. Bellingham and Mount are given license to get further forward but Rice stays back as a safety net.
“But the defensive midfielder who impressed the most was Tyler Adams of Leeds.
“He was here, there and everywhere.

“Rice had a tough night.”
Man of the match
Adams was incredible.
It’s annoying in a way because we obviously all wanted England to win and Adams’ combative midfield performance hampered the likes of Mason Mount and Jude Bellingham massively.
He didn’t stop running, chasing balls, closing down England players and sticking the boot in.
If England had someone playing half as well as Adams did, they’d have won and have their qualification to the knock-out stages confirmed before any other team in Qatar.
The USA are in a good position to qualify now.
Although Iran won against Wales, you’d still imagine that the States have enough about them to beat their Persian opponents in their final group-stage game.
England can qualify even if they lose to the Welsh due to a superior goal difference but as long as the USA win, they’ll be through with the Three Lions to play one of Holland, Ecuador or Senegal.
In other Leeds United news, the end is surely near for this “hurt” Leeds senior player.
