Chris Sutton: Leeds United 'bullied' Chelsea in 3-0 win at Elland Road
Chris Sutton says Leeds United “bullied” Chelsea at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon as they claimed an emphatic 3-0 win on the day.
The Whites claimed all three points and maintained their unbeaten start to the season thanks to goals from Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison, while Illan Meslier made some big saves to keep a clean sheet at home for the first time since November 2021.
And Sutton, writing on his personal Twitter account, praised an “outstanding” display from the home side and labelled the Blues as “weak” for their performance in the game.
“Outstanding display from Leeds,” he said.
“Well played. Lots of hunger, desire and quality.
“Chelsea were bullied all afternoon. Hard to see such a weak and indisciplined performance coming after last week.”
Despite a win and a draw in the opening two games of the season and the great escape that occurred last year under Jesse Marsch, there will still plenty of doubters about the coach.
But what he has built in such a short space of time is nothing short of magical, and doing it after the sale of the club’s two best players in Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha is sensational.
That performance on Sunday was arguably the team’s best since their return to the Premier League two years ago with Marcelo Bielsa, and showed that they absolutely do belong in the division.
Their intensity is brilliant, their quality in tight areas is strong, they press as a unit effectively and had the fans on the edge of their seats throughout.
Not every game will be like that and they will lose eventually, but fans are safe in the knowledge they can compete at the highest level on their day and that is all any Leeds fans will ever ask for. To be competitive.
