BT Sport pundit: Meslier save was 'excellent' in Leeds United v Crystal Palace
Jim Beglin was thrilled with Illan Meslier’s save against Crystal Palace that kept the clean sheet intact for Leeds United on Tuesday night.
The Whites registered a 1-0 victory over the London club in the Premier League, courtesy of Raphinha’s penalty in stoppage time.
However, Meslier made an impressive save in the second half where he had to readjust his position, to ensure that they finished with maximum points.
Discussing the save on Premier League’s world feed, Beglin, a BT Sport pundit, said, “The keeper was wrong-footed there. Needed a recovery but that’s an excellent save from Meslier.”
Hearts in mouths
The Meslier incident was a nervous moment for everyone watching the game and the outcome could have been so different.
Initially, it looked like the ball was going off target, but a deflection saw it creeping into the back of the net.
Had the Frenchman not shown razor-sharp reflexes, Palace would have got an unlikely and undeserved lead on the night.
Knowing Patrick Vieira, he would’ve then set his side up to play with a low block and would have frustrated the Leeds attackers even further.
However, Meslier did his bit to stop it from going in and Raphinha did his part at the other end to seal the three points.
The result merited the performance and there certainly were shades of the Leeds of old in this game.
A fantastic display from Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
